When a tear occurs in a tent roof it is our experience that in ± 40% of the cases, basically the tent is finally worn out.  Through the influence of UV light your roof is vulnerable. We test this by paralleling the existing tear with a new, self made tear.  Should you have to pull hard on the fabric to make a tear, the tent is most likely useable for another year.  When the fabric appears worn, it is wisest to carry some tape and plastic along with you for security in case of tears.

The video below clearly shows how the nylon roof is worn out.  We also perform the same test on roofs made of cotton.

Tatteljee makes loose roofs and/or can also make a copy of your original roof, (as often your inner tent is still in good condition).
